21-Day Challenge – Day 14 – Conscientious Tuesday: Leadership Opinions

I wish to honor your commitment to this 21-day challenge of satisfying your psychological needs to influence your personal energy.  It is a valuable investment of a little bit of your time with high rewards – as it directy impacts your leadership, your relationships, your own well-being. Your engagement is inspiring!

Today, we look into charging our persister battery, which is getting our psychological needs for recognition of opinions met in a positive way.

27306897_mTo do this, I invite you to observe your own opinion from a distance – and especially observe the motivation underneath.

  • When opinions are pushed motivated by ego and own agenda’s, they are not powerful and often get resistance.
  • When opinions are rooted in a deeper belief inside of you, passion, a strong conviction AND voiced for the sake of something bigger or beyond your own personal agenda, they are much more powerful.

This is when opinion gets the character of leadership. Observe your own opinion and explore where it comes from. From there, take a moment to reflect if your opinion is going to have the impact you intend to have.  Look for the deeper cause. Why is your opinion so important, for the sake of what? From here, take it forward and engage others.

21-Day Challenge – Day 13 – Sweet success – the power of intention

24728388_mA sincere and joyful thank you!

I have been delighted with many personal email messages of people joining in the 21-day Challenge on increasing our personal energy. Not only was it a joy to read your stories, with your emails, you have also been charging my battery, which keeps me joyfully motivated to continue this blog 🙂

We’ve been charging our batteries now for 2 weeks and the effect is simply powerful:

  • more energy
  • a better overall well-being feeling
  • more resilient
  • less stress
  • higher efficiency

One facet of leadership is your self-management: taking care and influencing your own energy levels. With this 21-day challenge, we are putting awareness and intention in managing our personal energy by satisfying our psychological needs of all 6 types in our personality architecture.

Why is doing this intentionally so powerful?

My definition of „intention“ is: «a consciously chosen quality of purpose and being»

  • Purpose because with the intention, you go for something you want for the sake of something better.
  • Being – because a true positive intention naturally brings you into a positive state of being AND you can give more power to the purpose if you are also intentional about how you want to be as a leader.

By satisfying your psychological needs with intention and awareness, you do not only experience this fabulous boost in your personal energy and efficiency, it also impacts your leadership and the world around you. If you are more balanced, more resilient, less stressed, have more energy, then you will be a better leader too. Your impact will be more inspirational, more open, you’ll have better relationships, are higher performing… only to name a few benefits.

Your energy is your responsibility and impacts your leadership.

You’ve been doing a great job! Well done!

Let’s start this third week in a powerful way again:

  • How are you going to charge your Thinker-battery today?
  • How will you set yourself up for getting recognition for your achievements and your work?
  • What will you celebrate and how will you do this?

Keep up the great work!

To your success!

Nicole

21-Day Challenge – Day 12 – Imagine some time alone

Weekend. Did you make some space for the imaginer personality part inside of you?Charging the battery for the imaginer is freeing up some time for yourself, to recharge.

11056637_mFor some of us it is easy to just be alone, with ourselves, for some of us, this is more difficult. You can make this alone-time your space to dream. A space to allow your mind to wander off and take you into “What if”-scenarios… . You can use the imaginer psychological need to create a sacred space in your calendar – 30 minutes not to be disturbed. Or more or less – whatever amount of time contributes to increasing your personal energy.

Instead of letting your reflections float in “What if”-scenarios… you might want not to reflect at all and look for deep relaxation in silence.

It’s really about finding your own door opener to charging your psychological need of spending some time in solitude. There is not “one way”, in fact there are many ways.

For instance, you can choose to access silence through meditation (inaction) but also through e.g. running (action). When you choose action to access your inaction, it is like doing a meditation in movement.

If you choose to try this out, then

  • consider this sacred time to charge the battery of your imaginer.
  • Set the intention of focussing on running and breathing and creating space for your stillness.
  • Don’t take an ipod with loud music with you and leave your phone at home so that you cannot be disturbed.
  • Don’t go running with a friend and chatter whilst running as you will not be able to access this meditative state

When you are running your breathing naturally goes very deep and it stimulates the center from where meditative energy is released. Just run and breathe and you will experience that you cannot think anymore. You will run yourself in a meditative state and experience emptiness, stillness of the mind, pureness and simply your being. This is reenergizing and refreshing.

Some good quality being-alone-time can truly spark our imagination and also our mindfulness!

  • What does good quality alone-time mean for you?

Have a nice Sunday evening and a great start of the week!

21-Day Challenge – Day 11 – Creative Friday!

13503394_mLaughter bonds people through humor and play.  Our psychological need of our rebel part is the one for playful contact. Today, it is about the bliss of lightheartedness, a good laugh, a refreshing portion of humor. Laughing brings your energy back to you. Laughter is creative energy. From this place, you can’t be negative or destructive.  You can only be creative!

Let’s play and explore: what are your myths around creativity, playfulness, laughter?

  • Do you hold a myth that laughter at work is not serious?
  • Do you believe that only special and talented people are creative?
  • or that one must be born with a special talent?

Scan your own myths and beliefs on laughter, humor and play and if they do not serve you, choose another one that frees up the space and set your energy free!

Here are some good reasons to take good care of your rebel battery. From research studies we know: laughter produces endorphins in our brain that make us feel immediately better and relieved afterward. It can relax our muscles, lower stress hormones, boost our immune system, and prevent heart disease. It helps us boost our mood and appreciate life more. And it sparks our creativity!

  • Plan for some fun time together! (Yes, in our busy overloaded lives, it’s good to plan some fun time!)
  • Surprise someone today!
  • Laugh with each other, not at each other!
  • Do you have the infrastructure inviting for playful contact interventions at the office? A great example are the Google offices all over the world!
  • How do you create the space for playfulness and lightness at home?

and.. if things go really really wrong… look at life as a cosmic joke! Allowing yourself the lightheartedness and humor as a coping strategy can relieve emotional pain in distressful situations. It also helps you look at a situation from the lighter side of things.

I’m wishing you a truly creative Friday loaded with many contagious deep and shaking belly laughs!

21-Day Challenge – Day 10 – Compassionate Thursday

Cultivate Compassion!

9095968_mIt’s a grey, rainy day here in Switzerland. Not the kind of weather that is uplifting or automatically puts you in a heightened  mood.  It shouldn’t be in the way though to let the sun shine from within!

The battery getting some extra attention today is the one that nurtures our harmonizer part – recognition for who we are and sensory stimulation.  Just breathe into your heart for a moment and connect with the warm, compassionate, sensitive part of you.  Feel compassion. Allow yourself to feel compassion and explore what is it, that would do you well. From this place of feeling compassion for you, what is it that you can do for yourself that would increase your energy and charge your harmonizer battery?

  • Is it deepening the connection with someone?
  • Going to the movies with a best friend?
  • Giving yourself a wonderful treat?
  • Will the bunch of flowers cheer you up?
  • Simply taking some time for self-care?

Cultivating compassion adds a powerful dimension to impactful leadership. (This would deserve a blog on its own!)  In consciously taking care of your personal energies, gently expand your capacity of compassion from within – starting with you. Be sensitive to your own needs and take care of charging your wonderful harmonizer battery. Nurturing this part of us intentionally is powerful and increases your personal energy levels. It is what is needed … to let the sun rise and shine from within!

Have a beautiful compassionate Thursday!

21-Day Challenge – Day 8 – Visionary Tuesday: The importance of mindset

It’s visionary Tuesday. This means our psychological need for being recognized for opinions and beliefs get extra attention.

24614937_mIf you have a strong need for getting recognition for your beliefs, it’s very valuable to scan your inner beliefs around this and ensure that they serve your self-management in the best way. Often your mindset is influenced by inner beliefs which you unconsciously hold. These do not always serve us. If you scan them and you find out that they are not serving your self-management,  I invite you to consciously choose others that serve you well. Your inner beliefs set you up a deeper level and influence your efficiency.

For example, if deep inside of you, you want to be recognized by ALL of your colleagues or your friends, you will experience a lot of frustration.

Here are some inner attitudes / beliefs that serve a healthy and productive self-management in relation to getting recognition for your opinions.

  • I know and accept that we live in a world where people hold different opinions and beliefs and that’s OK.
  • I am OK with the fact that different opinions can be held by the whole (be it a team, an organization, a parent reunion…)
  • I remain curious and open to listen to the opinions of others to find alignment and move forward to a common goal.

These acceptances and attitudes help you not to be frustrated when not everyone agrees with your opinion AND help you to stay open and flexible in your discussions. Not loosing your openness along the way helps you to be more influential.

Inner beliefs and mindset are typically explored in an individual coaching process and are deep transformative work.

When you voice yourself and stand up for what you believe in, check your mindset first and make sure it serves your self-management in the best way. Doing this directly influences the impact of your leadership!

I wish you a valuable visionary Tuesday!
